The seventh unit describes the receptive skills that include reading and listening. It starts with characterizing two categories of reasons for reading and listening. Then the skills that a person uses during reading or listening, including predictive skills, scanning, skimming, detailed information, deduction from the context are presented. Further the unit addresses the problems that students may face while reading and listening. It is emphasized that a special attention should be paid to the listening as it represents a greater difficulty for a student as the student has a possibility to listen to it only once, in comparison to the written text the student may read many times. Thus in order to reduce all the possible difficulties for students the teacher should carefully choose the text for the lesson and pre-teach the vocabulary from the text which could be problematic for the students. Moreover, the selection of the topic to the lesson is very important as it should be interesting for all the students in the class as well as the tasks should promote understanding. Finally the unit presents a typical receptive skills lesson, which will help me in creating a good lesson plan.
