Unit eight presents forms, usages and teaching ideas for the five most common future tenses (Future simple, Future continuous, Future perfect, Future perfect continuous, Going to future) as well as present simple and present continuous tenses which can have future applications. I appreciated to learn about some of the more subtle differences when working with the future simple tense such as using 'shall' when making sugggestions and 'will' when expressing determination and strong intention. The listings of teaching ideas for each of the seven tenses were particularly useful because of the complexity of the English language future tense system. The differences in usage of future tenses are not always obvious. For this reason I thought helpful the following guidelines: 1) future perfect tense can usually be recognized by the presence of an adverbial expression that signals when a future event will be completed ('At the end of the year ...'); 2)the future continous often includes an expression that begins with 'by'; and 3) the difference between the 'Going to' future and the present continuous is that the 'Going to' future structure is always followed by a verb ('I am going to play ...').
