A successful learning environment is one where the teacher can adapt to several different roles and students are motivated to learn. The unit lists the characteristics of a good teacher and the different roles they must play in the classroom. Teachers should be kind, patient, enthusiastic, and have a good rapport with their class. The teacher is first and foremost the classroom manager; the teacher guides the lesson and is responsible for organizing activities and disciplining misbehaving students. It is also important the teacher acts as assessor, keeping close watch on student progress so the lesson can be tailored to better meet their needs or to see if some extra one-on-one tutoring may be required.
