Unit 3 has been the most substantial one yet. I?ve received an overview of various teaching methodologies ranging from ones I?ve experienced as a student, practised as a teacher, and, quite frankly, ones I hope to never come across in real life. After this thorough reading, I tend to agree that Engage, Study, Activate method with it?s flexibility and ease of understanding makes a great deal of sense. I look forward to applying it to my lessons with necessary adjustments for knowledge levels and number of students. In addition to ESA method, I am rather partial towards Task-based learning. I?ve worked with a few students who had limited time and/or budget, and they certainly were going for function over form. Getting students to talk as soon as possible is a worthwhile goal, both for the sake of language learning being actually useful to them, as well as motivating them to study further. The unit went on to recommend typical activities for each step of the ESA method. Some of those I promptly applied to lesson plans in the worksheet portion. As this course will focus more and more on lesson planning in future units, I will surely come back to Unit 3 for ideas and inspiration.
