This unit looked at the types and sources of available classroom material and discusses their advantages and disadvantages. The question of authentic versus non-authentic material is examined, and also the pros and cons of using course books. The benefits of lesson planning are reviewed and a sample EP lesson plan is presented. The use of the internet, including some cautionary advice, is looked at, and a number of websites for free ESL downloads are provided. For me the tips on the design of non-authentic materials were particularly useful as my interest is in teaching the group 1 age band for whom much authentic material may be too advanced.
