I have certainly learned quite a bit from this lesson, even as a native English speaker. I believe it is crucial to memorize each of these parts of speech by name and by rule and function. I believe this because I know, as someone who has taken a foreign language course, how frustrating it is when grammar rules are told to me but have no seeming rhyme or reason and is chalked up to, \"that's just how it is.\" Of course I understand that each rule has exceptions and things don't necessarily fall under the given patterns 100% of the time, but it is good to be completely informed about my language if i want to give accurate lessons to my students.
