Testing our students is important. A placement test is great at the beginning of a course for knowing the strengths and weaknesses of each student and where they stand in comparison to the rest of the class. A diagnostic test is similar but it's for understanding what our students do and don't know, so that we may better teach them. Progress tests are to review what we've taught and to see how much they've retained and what we need to work on more, practice tests are for students to practice for an external exam. There are many different options available for external exams, depending on what a particular student wants to use their English for.
