This unit introduces principles and sample lesson plans for teaching productive skills (speaking and writing). It points out the challenge in learning and teaching writing as writing demands great degree of accuracy yet is often assigned as homework. It also reminds teachers to foster students' desire to learn to communicate through speaking and writing. There are three kinds of speaking activities: controlled practices, guided practices and creative communication.
