This unit covered four past tenses. These tenses were past simple, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. These tenses are very similar to their equivalents in present tense. The past simple is formed simply by adding -ed to regular verbs, though there are many irregular verbs that do not follow this rule. The past continuous is created by adding the auxiliary verb was/were before the present participle of the verb. Past perfect is formed by using had before the past participle. The past perfect continuous is a mix between the past perfect and the past continuous, the auxiliary verb had is used before the present participle.
