Teaching beginners or younger students can be the most rewarding. This unit gave some good ideas on how to conduct a business English class. For example, it helps for the teacher to become aware of the adult learners requirement and to get feedback from them on how, when, why they use English. This also kind of helps engage students into understanding how important the course is for them and they will be more motivated. (rather instead of being motivated for the work requirement or boss requirement) When teaching it helps to become familiar with the various types of beginner students. Absolute beginners are those who don't know any English as all. False beginners have studied English but don't remember what they have learned. They may be able to contribute by using some simple sentences or ideas. Adult beginners have made a decision to study English for a purpose so tend to be more motivated than younger learners. They may need to use it for work or similar purposes. Younger learners, by comparison, lack the motivation or desire as they don't see how English can benefit them. Although they pick up language easier than adult learners do. As children tend to have short attention spans, young learners constantly need new activities and fun or they lose interest. Children seek teachers approval so need constant positive reinforcement to stay motivated. They are the most rewarding to teach. The Business English student : English for Specific Purposes are students who need to learn English for their job: such as someone working at a hospital or hotel. Keep in mind that these learners are often tired due o their job. It helps to make lessons easy. Oftentimes, adults want a conversation class only. A teacher needs to do a needs analysis. What do they want /need? These two ideas are different. How do they use English in which situations? The sample questionnaire given in the unit was a good guide.
