In this unit I learned about the use of different parts of speech. A sentence can be made of a noun, adjective, article, verb, adverb, gerund, pronoun, preposition or conjunction. Each of those ?parts? have their own rules, specifications and exceptions. Nouns can be people, animals, places, things, qualities or states. There are different types of Nouns, they can be common, proper, compound, abstract or collective. There are also Nouns that we can count or the ones that we can?t. Adjective are used to describe Nouns. A dog can be big, brown or friendly. It can also be bigger (comparative adjective) than a cat or the biggest (superlative adjectives) in comparison with a cat and a mouse. If we want to express possession it can also be my dog. Every part of the sentence has its own role and meaning. A letter \"a\" from the example above is an article. Articles can be definite (specific) or indefinite (non specific). Verbs represent action in the sentence. Verb can be transitive, intransitive or infinitives. They have different forms, can indicate tenses we use and can be regular or irregular. Adverbs describe verbs, their manner, place, time, degree or frequency. Gerund is a ing form of the Verb that we can use as a noun. Pronouns are usually used instead of Nouns. They can represent a person or a object, they can express possession and they can also be used before or after a Verb. Prepositions and conjunctions are used to explain a relationship between words (Prepositions), such as at, on, by; or can join words or groups (conjunctions) such as before, since, so? It is one thing to know all the parts of speech and their rules but teaching all those to student is not always easy. It is important that a teacher knows how to explain the difference between the words that may be very similar or very different and keep the students motivated. Different games may be a good way to start the teaching process.
