This unit covers the topic of teaching special groups like beginners, children, teaching Business English, monolingual and the multilingual classes. I find the tips for teaching each group very useful. I agree that teaching beginners requires special skills and psychology: it's important not to try to do too much too quickly, to be as visual as possible, to give clear, simple instructions, to use choral repetition and pair work, to ask lots of questions and to encourage students to speak English in class as much as possible. Revision and homework are important. I also think that individual lessons have a number of advantages for the teacher, but can have drawbacks, like tiredness, that the teacher needs to deal with by using a variety of activities and techniques. I totally agree that teaching children is very rewarding. The speech in this case should have some features, like being slower and more clear, like the use of a higher pitch and exaggerated intonation, it should have lots of repetition and there should be positive responses to the child's utterances irrespective of pronunciation. It's useful to remember that the teacher's role is of primary importance since the children will look to the teacher for guidance. The teacher should also be prepared that children have high energy levels and it is inevitable that the teacher may have to deal with disruptive behavior. I agree that a teacher should be consistent, shouldn't issue threats and raise his or her voice nor have ?favorites? in the class. While teaching Business English it's useful to find out what the students want and what they need. The needs analysis and planning the course are essential here. When teaching the monolingual and the multilingual classes it's significant to ensure that the students understand the importance of using English and not their mother tongue. I am sure that this information and these teaching techniques will prove to be helpful during my job as a teacher.
