?Pronunciation is the most difficult part in English language. Anyway there are some general rules and formulas in pronunciation. Depend of the intonation (rice or fall) the meaning of sentence/phrase can be changed. Intonation also express well the feelings and emotions. The NORMAL pattern indicates rise/fall intonation in positive/negative sentence, greetings, instructions, when we agree and reply OK, when we finish our phrase, in straightforward questions. F.e.: I don't like football. The fall/rice pattern is used when the question need to be responded/confirmed, surprise or disagreement. F.e.: Oh, really? Te flat pattern is used when the speaker probably doesn't want to communicate, has nothing to say or before announce some results. F.e.: Barca 2 Madrid 3. The word is stressed only one time, here are some rules but also there are lots of exceptions in English: - The noun/adj that has 2 syllables the stress is on the FIRST syllable: 'English - 'Easy - The verb with 2 syllables the stress is on LAST syllable: Corr'Ect - The words ending in SION/TION or IC the stress is on PENULTIMATE syllable: hypn'Otic - prod'Uction - The words ending in AL, IVE, CY, TY, PHY, GY the stress is on the THIRD syllable FROM THE END - ANTE-PENULTIMATE - The compound nouns the stress is on the FIRST part: timetable The compound verb\\adj the stress is on the SECOND part: well-prep'Aried - five stars hotel The auxiliary verbs and the articles are usually has no stress. The following techniques helps to teach pronunciation: - Peer dictation when the student in pair work read in a voice to another students some words/phrases so the last one write them down without looking at original text. That way the students can analyze their mistakes of pronunciation. - To use your own mouth for demonstration sounds to students. - Visuals mouth diagrams show the place of articulation (velar, palatal, palatar-aveolar, alveolar, dental, labio-dental, bilabial and glottal). - Phonemes and tongue twisters.
