To me one of the most apparent differences between teaching young learners and adult learners of Business is the level of initial difficulty involved from the perspective of new teachers. Much of the responsibility is placed on your shoulders to organize and create the lesson plan after assessing what the clients actually need and want from the course. On top of which, you have the added complexity of possibly having a large social dynamic based on a client's position in the company. As a new teacher, until I take the course specified for teaching business English I wouldn't feel comfortable with such a job. Mind you, as adults they might feel more inclined since the teaching is in a similar age group. And some do take this for either the challenge, don't see it as a challenge, or even feel the same way I do towards teaching young learners. With young learners on the other hand, the lesson plans are already done for the most part. That isn't to say a teacher can't make their own or change to supplement and such but much of the legwork seems to be done. Also, because the teaching establishments pretest most if not all students for language ability there will usually be a less diverse group in terms of language level. With social dynamic it's dependent on the age group, though one fact that would remain constant is that the teacher remains a large central pillar to the classroom. Teaching individually would be a slightly different matter as it would be less formal in some cases. It would still hold close to the same difficulty as teaching English for Business but lack the difficulties that come with a group dynamic from adults. With that of course goes the group diversity with in most cases can only be a boon. Overall, the knowledge in this unit is key in helping choose what a road teachers think would be best to pursue. Teach groups or young learners or adults? Teach individuals or either? Both can be equally different, most teachings will find themselves more suited for one or the other.
