In Unit 17, we are taught about equipments and teaching aids. Different materials can be used to make lessons more interesting, effective and less dependent on the textbook. Every school or learning centre have their own method of teaching and that also means they have different type of teaching materials. In this unit we were given 14 different teaching materials. 1. White/black board is one of the old school teaching aid that has been around for many years and is still in use to date. 2. Interactive whiteboards are increasingly being used in both state funded and private classrooms world-wide. These board are what we call the smart board. They are touch sensitives. 3. Overhead projectors are projectors that are shown on a surface of a board, wall or screen. 4. Visual aids can vary from pictures, real objects and photos. 5. Worksheets and work cards are also an old school material that can be brought or self made by the teachers. 6. Cassette recorder is something i personally haven't ever used however, it is said to be the most useful tool for EFL teachers. It can be used to record ones script and be played. 7. Videos and DVDs are interesting to students as they don't have to look at textbook but to watch something which boosts up their excitement. 8. Video camera can be used to record the students during an activity and played back for them to analysis and discussion. 9. Dictionaries is the most important book in English language, it is most commonly used till date. 10. Course books are books that we have discuss in previous lessons and mostly used by school rather than a learning centre as the curriculum is not structured. 11. Resource books range from grammar exercise books to communication game books. It is said to have variety of them in the market, schools/centres can choose which books suit best for their classes and curriculums 12. Photocopiers are used to make copies. 13. Computers are gradually becoming a part of the English language classroom as students are familiar with technology now. 14. Online sources are what we always look up to when we need new ideas for classes or any kind of teaching aid.
