The unit begins by noting a teacher does not have to be an extrovert in order to be a good teacher as some good teacher could be very low key. It defines classroom management as the skill in organising amd managing the class, having a friendly, relaxed manner and maintining discipline. The unit then explains the use of various aspects; eye contact, gesture and voice, prouping students, arranging the classroom, writing on the board, giving instructions, giving individual attention, achieving a balance between teacher talk time and student talk time, establishing rapport and maintaining discipline. It states benefits from these aspects if properly done and gives advice on what to bear in mind when using these aspects in managing the class. The unit cites the pros and cons of various arrangements and that these should be be geared towards achieving the most for a lesson for example when does the teacher stands, sits or remains at a distance. From this unit I have learnt a lot on class management which is as important as knowing what role to assume as a teacher and what stage of the lesson.Through this unit I have learnt the various aspect of class management and their importance. The unit has enlightened me that if I can organise and manage the class in a way to maintain discipline while the class remains friendly and relaxed, teaching would be a lot of fun and achieving. As the unit throws more light on grouping students I have learnt that the best and more effective groupings are pairwork and groupwork grouping as these will greatly increase student talk time, though other groupings may prove more preferable depending on the class size and classroom furniture which might play a big role.I have also learnt that in arranging the classroom to maximaze effectiveness I must consider the space available ,type of chairs/tables, age of students, nationality and student personality. An important note for me as a teacher from this unit is that in arrangement before moving students its important to have a purpose that is clear to the students to avoid protest which could seriously undermind teacher?s authority and thus weaken class discipline.
