This lesson was about teaching special groups. I think the information that I read in this Unit was extremely helpful. The section about teaching Business English and English for Specific Purpose was very eye opening. I used to teach at an adult academy in South Korea, and the information that was in the Unit was 100 percent correct. The age of students can vary, and so can attendance. Another thing that I noticed was that motivation at times could be lacking because the students are tired. In Korea the average businessmen will work about 50 hours a week, and sometimes they are required to work overtime. I was disappointed about this, but now I have better understanding why attendance sometimes is down. One thing that my academy didn't do for the students was a needs analysis. I think that this is needed. It lets you know more about the students their specific needs, and you can get a better understanding of who your students are from a needs analysis. This can help because if you know who your students are I feel it's easier to teach them. The section about working with children was also extremely helpful especially the advice given about classroom management. Children are greatly influenced by their peers so it's a good idea to change seats once in a while. Another thing that I think is important is to never lose your temper in the classroom. Kids will be kids, and we can't control bad behavior. However, we as teachers control are response to bad behavior. Another thing that I think is extremely important is to be fair and consistent with students. If you aren't fair with the students you will slowly lose their respect, and classroom behavior might become worse. This lesson was great because it had a great breakdown of the many types of classes or age groups you might teach. Each class or age group has it's challenges, but I think that each class and age group also has it's good points. For instance children maybe less motivated, but you can be more silly with them. You can also play more games with kids. Adults maybe more motivated, and serious but you can talk about deeper topics with them. I taught adults for 4 years in South Korea, and I was able to learn more about the culture, and Korean life from teaching adults.
