This unit is about present tenses. It explains the use, form, difficulties the student might have with learning, and activities that teachers can use for teaching. There are four present tenses. Present simple is mainly used to express facts and habits. It is also the most commonly used in the English language. There are three forms: affirmative (I work), negative (I don't work) and interrogative (Do I work?). The form changes for third singular person. For affirmative form we ad s/es at the end (He works), for negative and interrogative form \"do\" becomes \"does\" (He/she/it does not work. / Does he/she/it work?). Present continuous is used to express actions that are still in progress at the time of speaking or around the time of speaking. Affirmative form would be ?I am learning?, negative ?I am not learning?, and question form would be ?Am I learning??. Present perfect is manly used for states that began in the past and are still going on in the present. Examples would be ?I have played soccer this week?, ?I have not played soccer this week?, ?Have I played soccer this week? For third singular person (he/she/it) the verb \"have\" changes to \"has\". Present perfect continuous is very similar to present perfect but instead of state represents action. We use it to express action that continues to the present. To the ?I have played? example we add \"been\" and \"ing\" to the verb and we get ?I have been playing soccer for 2 years/ I haven?t been playing soccer for 2 years/ Have I been playing soccer for 2 years?? For he/she/it the verb \"have\" changes to \"has\". In this unit I learned which activities would be appropriate for teaching present tenses in the activate stage of learning. Teachers should choose activities according to the students age, language level, and other factors. The same activities should not be used for young lerners or adults or the same activities for beginners or more advanced. For younger students pictures or activities like guess my profession when the goal is to get one sentence would be more appropriate. From advanced student the teacher would expect more knowledge and would choose activities such as role play or creating stories.
