This unit is on different problems or challenges the teacher might come across in the classroom. The most common are, students being different levels, large classes, Students using their own language or being reluctant to participate and students having trouble with listening exercises. If there is a noticeable gap difference between the students English levels there are a few ways a teacher can make sure all students get the most out of the class. Teachers can pair the stronger students with the weaker students, they just have to make sure that the stronger students don't dominate and try to help out the weaker students instead. Another option a teachers may chose, is to give different worksheets to the stronger students. When working with Large groups a teacher may find having group leaders to help with classroom management. They could help out with handing out/collecting worksheets or help control group work. Pair and group work can also work well with large groups. Coral repetition is another way to get everyone involved. To try and avoid students from using their own language, make sure instructions are clear and given in English at or below the level of the group. Never punish a student for using their first language however try and encourage them to speak in English only throughout the class. When you have a reluctant student try and do pair work as the the student may feel more comfortable working and sharing his or her thoughts with a partner rather than the whole class. Also role play activities might help with shy and reluctant students as its often easier to act as someone else then being yourself in front of large groups. Listening exercises might be more of a challenge than reading or speaking for lots however its just has important. To help to students with the listening exercise, the teacher could go over difficult vocabulary beforehand and allow the students to listen to the context two or three times to allow them to understand it better. In Each classroom the teacher will have his or her own different challenges with the class. An experienced teacher will know how to cater to each problem or challenge appropriately however as a new teacher this program has supplied a lot of useful tips to help you out as well as using your gut instinct.
