Unit 10 Overview While watching first video I felt at the beginning discouraged. I questioned myself; is this real teacher? How can a teacher conduct a lesson like that? He started the lesson by introducing grammar right away and asking the same question over and over again, without helping and motivating students to answer. His speech was not clear and there was no body language support for his class. And there was no smile on his face. Moreover, he often looked down to students with dissapointed face feeling frustrated with the students for not coming up with the answers. He didn?t look like he was enjoying the class. At the same time, students were feeling frustrated, too. There was no student participation. Everyone clearly felt fear to talk. The teacher?s judgment ?this was easy? made students even more uncomfortable. Furthermore, students didn?t ask questions or participate for the fear to not look stupid, obviously avoiding communication with the teacher. And, when they did ask a question, they got the ?I don?t understand? or ?I will tell you later? answer. The teacher?s explanations was very little and unclear. He just handed worksheets and sat down with no interaction, even tried to read a book. No explanation at all! I would definitely avoid to be in such a class. In the second video the situation was much better. I was feeling comfortable to watch and learn from what was going on in the class. The teacher was smiling and giving lots of verbal and body language support. He used visual aids and gave time and opportunity to students to come with the vocabulary. The students were participating, and even enjoying themselves. It was definitely a student-centered lesson. He made efforts to know and remember student?s names. He gave clear instructions for the exercise, provided the first answer for them, and had them participate in the instructions. Students were very relaxed, often laughing and giving answers to teacher. I felt they were enjoying themselves. Because the teacher was not speaking to fast, I noticed that students understood him much better. The instructor used basic words and slow voice. At the end of the lesson everyone was happy and I?m sure, students left the classroom with knowledges and with satisfied heart.
