I learned that providing a balance of receptive skills and productive skills is key to teach a language. I learned that reading can be for entertianment and for a purpose. I often feel that students will see reading in English for a purpose. But it can be for entertainment as well because if the topic can spark interest in students, then they will really enjoy reading. I also learned that a pre-existing knowledge is important for English learners and pre-teaching vocabulary is one of the approach to this. Getting to know students interest can help provide variety range of topics for teaching. This can help with creating tasks for students that can allow them to be fully engage and focus.
