In this section, we learned the different teaching themes such as Stories, Songs/chants/music, games, arts and seasonal activities. I have to admit I underestimate the efficiency of songs, chants and music. In my opinion, it was too juvenile and it could only focus on listening skills. The Stories section as well could be effective in practicing the four skills. Games are crucial in order to keep the lesson interactive and engaging especially when these involve competition. I do agree that it is important to think about the target language first and then an game built around the grammar point (or vocabulary taught). Seasonal activities and arts are excellent way to enlarge their general knowledge by learning different cultural habits in the world. However, in my opinion these should be limited as I'm sure the school director won't allow much time for these activities. He/she would rather focus on direct English teaching. With a combination of these themes, we can easily create a lesson plan according to the objective (or target language). We must always bear in mind the amount of time for the preparation of these activities (before and during class). Again, one of the major problem for inexperienced teachers is the timing!
