Some tips for teaching beginners I found helpful: -don't try to move too quickly -be as visual as possible -give clear, simple instructions -use choral rep and pair and group work -ask a lot of questions -encourage students to speak English in class as much as possible and as a teacher avoid using the students' mother tongue -focus on what is easy, not what is difficult -explain your methods Suggestions for teaching individual students I found helpful: -use activities from course books -maximize on the students' interests and experience -free conversation is not something for a whole lesson, there should be an objective to the lesson to deliberately teach the student new things -make a combination of what the student wants and what the teacher thinks he/she needs thinks important to keep in mind when teaching children: -lots of repetition -postive responses -always use English as language of instruction -reward them for good work and behaviour Things to bear in mind when teaching English for specific purposes I found helpful: -analyse in the beginning the needs of the students -find out what materials will be available to use at the company -find out as much as possible about the company and the work your students are doing
