Breaking down the English language into three tenses: past, present and future and then describing the four aspects of each tense helps both the learner and the teacher in better understanding the English language and how to teach it. The present simple is the most common form used and talks about things in general. For example: I speak English. The present continuous, or present progressive, form describes actions in progress at or around the time of speaking, using the present participle form of the verb- \"ing.\" For example: I am taking a test. The present perfect tense always relates the past to the present. For example: I have been a nurse for 13 years. This sentence states that I became a nurse 13 years ago and that I am still a nurse today. The present perfect continuous form is often associated with duration and uses \"have/has been\" as part of the sentence structure and the present participle form of the verb- \"ing.\" For example: I have been nursing for 13 years. There are multiple class activities that can help to reinforce what is being taught with activities such as mime, comparison work sheets, 20 questions, etc. Each activity looking for the student to use the proper form of the present tense discussed in the classroom.
