A course book can provide time-tested material for students as well as teachers to learn from. However, sticking with the course book throughout the duration of the class can be repetitive, and unresponsive to the needs of the students. Additional materials can be grouped into two categories, authentic materials which are any \"real-world\" examples of the language such as newspapers, movies, or songs. These materials can be very interesting and rewarding for students, but are difficult for beginner students. Created materials are those created specifically for students, such as flash cards and word puzzles. These can be tailored to the students' skill levels and the course material easily.
