Choosing the right lesson material for a specific group of students can be a challenge. How much should be authentic vs. created materials? How closely should the textbook be followed? Clearly, the answer to these key questions depends on the types of students and their needs. In any circumstance, the exact lesson plan should match their pain points and their motivation for learning. What I took away from this lesson was that developing consistency early on in the semester/quarter/year with students with regards to the way the textbook and my own provided materials is essential for starting the class out on the right footing. What?s tough is knowing from the get-go what that balance is.
