Onus should be largely placed upon the learner to facilitate their own learning (if appropriate for the age) and the teacher should be able to facilitate this self learning, not the other way around. Teachers should offer a variety of roles to the learners, and should be aware of individual and cultural differences when teaching. Motivation is one of the primary focuses, and this should be high wherever possible. It's important for the teacher to know the level of fluency that the learner or learners are at so that content is appropriate for them and they feel like they are learning. Constant error correction is not facilitative as it damages motivation and therefore the willingness to learn.
