This unit compares and contrasts two separate English language lessons covering modal auxiliary verbs. The first lesson is replete with examples of \"what not to do\" when teaching, and the results of the teacher's improper actions are evident from the students' unenthusiastic demeanor and lack of participation. The second lesson corrects these improper actions in clearly identifiable ways, and the positive results are evidenced by the students' high level of enthusiasm and active participation. The takeaways from the unit are therefore (a) an analysis of effective teaching strategy, and (b) a reminder of the essential role that teacher performance has on the learning process for students.
