This unit dealt with the various groups of students that I may come across as an English teacher. I was surprised to learn that it is never good to use the students native language, even at an early level of skill. I understand the immersive techniques, and I will have to practice speaking more using only gestures and simplified English. I am nervous about gaining the students respect and balancing authority while simultaneously being someone that they feel comfortable with. When I was in college, I remember the teachers never correcting a student for being loud; all of the other students would correct them. I need to learn how to accomplish this without belittling the disruptive student.
