The use of course books within a class has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages, in my opinion, would be that it provides structure and it can serve as a reference for the teacher and students. However, while it may work for some does not mean it will work for all. Many course books will not satisfy the needs of every individual student, in some cases perhaps not even the majority. This is why I believe it is important for the teacher to use the course book as more of a guide, and improvise and supplement the lessons with what is needed. After all, the course book does not know what the students know or the learning pace. That is something each teacher has to discover and adapt to.
