This was a very interesting unit as it covered the previous methods of teaching English as a foreign language. Having looked at some of the methods such as The Lexical Approach and Presentation, Practice and Production, it is easy to see where E.S.A evolved from. However, The Silent Way sounds difficult and clumsy but I would be intrigued to see it in operation. All of the examples mentioned make E.S.A. appear straightforward and logical. The comprehensive list of activities suitable for the different stages of the lesson plan were extremely helpful. I was pleased to have my instincts validated on the subject of correction. There are times in a lesson when it is inappropriate to correct a student.
