This unit really highlighted the importance of teacher attitude and energy in a class setting. While the teacher in the lesson one video knew what he was doing his sour expression and condescending tone meant the students were reluctant to participate in the engage phase, which then set the tone for the entire lesson. The time taken by the teacher to warmly introduce himself and learn the names of students in lesson two instantly set up a relaxed inclusive energy that flowed beautifully into a highly interactive engage phase. This greater interaction was also helped by the use of a familiar subject matter making what would be perhaps a new or difficult concept more accessible to the students. I think this technique is very useful and easily applied to many lessons.
