Students can be evaluated via tutorials, student evaluations, or tests. Student evaluations promote genuine interaction and awareness of what is happening in the classroom. Placement tests are used to assess English levels. Diagnostic tests are used to tell you what students know and don't know. They are generally given at the beginning of a course. Practice tests are used to prepare for external exams and should follow the format of said exams. External exams include the TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, and Cambridge Assessment. TOEFL is required by most U.S. universities for non-native English speaker applicants. TOEIC is the most widely recognized in Korea and Japan, but may not be a great indicator of English competency as native English speakers have difficulty with the exam.
