This unit covered the basic parts of speech of the English language. These include nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs, pronouns, conjunctions, gerunds, and prepositions. Unfortunately for students there are a lot of exceptions to the rule, especially in regards to the different verb tenses. Usually verbs such as \"to live\" have the ending \"-ed\" for the past simple and past participle (\"lived\" or \"has/have lived\"), but there are many exceptions, such as \"to go\" becoming \"went\" in the past simple and \"has/have gone\" in the past participle. In these cases students need to memorize the exceptions as there is no explanation for these exceptions.
