The unit focused on the productive skills which are speaking and writing. These skills are different although they are used for the same purpose that is to communicate. The unit also made reference to the two types of activities which are accuracy activities and fluency activities. Accuracy activities are activities designed to ensure accurate reproduction of the language and these are controlled by the teacher. On the other hand fluency activities are designed to allow students to be creative and experiment with the language. The unit also covered on the reasons why students may be reluctant to speak in class. It also focused on techniques that are used to encourage interaction and these include group work and ensuring that students have ample but guided practice before attempting fluency activities. I learnt that although writing is an important skill, it is usually one of the most neglected methods as teachers usually assign it as homework which is in turn causing the skill not to be fully developed. I feel that this is a drawback to the teaching field and there is need to improve as writing is as equally important as speaking. I also learnt about the importance of incorporating games in the classroom to increase vibrancy and also as a means of arousing the students interest.
