This lesson was about teaching special groups. It focuses on teaching beginners, individual students, children, people in business or other specific purposes, and the monolingual vs multilingual class. When teaching beginners, you want to have clear and realistic aims, adapt to suit your situation, don?t over-correct, and use praise and encouragement. When teaching individuals, some classroom activities will become impossible, but there are many advantages such as no mixed levels, usually highly motivated students, and needs can be clearly defined. Effectively teaching children requires patient repetition, positive encouragement, and frequent praise. Teaching business English can take many forms since it could involve teaching from one to more than a dozen people, people from a wide variety of ages, and from all different businesses and language levels. Multilingual classes have students from different nationalities. This can be advantageous since the students will have no common language other than English, and they will bring a greater variety of culture and ideas to the classroom. Monolingual classes, made up of people from the same country, will not have these advantages but will most likely have the same difficulties when learning English making it more efficient to teach.
