This unit is about the use of two different types of teaching materials- authentic one and created materials, the pros and cons of using course books and criteria for teachers to choose a suitable course book. For determining teaching materials for lessons, teachers should be always flexible. In my opinion, the course book can be used as the foundation for students in the same level, however teaching materials and practices can be given out depending on the language proficiency of the class in general. For more capable class, gap-filling or even authentic materials can be used; while word search or other easier created materials can be used for less capable class. However, one should be reminded that task difficulties should only varies among class but not individuals. As teachers seldom take charge in selecting course book, this unit reminds me that methodology used in course book is a very important element during the selection process. While teachers can carry out activities in 'Engage' stage without the use of course book, we should carefully choose books with a nice balance between \"Study' and \"Activate' stage as it is normally seen that course books now more inclined to put their emphasis on 'Study' stage which guided exercise such as gap-filling or jumbled sentence are often seen.
