Unit 5 Managing classes, explains the many aspects of classroom management. Teachers can use many different tools to manage their English classes. Eye contact, gestures and voice or some of them. Eyes can be used to acknowledge, discipline, and check on students. Gestures can also be used to acknowledge a student, mime actions, lesson the need for verbal communication and more. And, the voice can be varied to liven a class, project a point loudly or to control a noisy classroom. The way students are grouped together can help the way classes are managed as well. Whole-class groupings promote a sense of oneness in the class, is easy to put together, but can lessen the chance for students to speak. Students working singly can benefit from individual attention from the instructor, improves student confidence, and reduces the stress of having to perform in front of the class. Having students work in pairs increases the time for them to speak to each other, share work loads, a comfortable working environment of only two people, and is generally easy to setup. Organizing and managing the classroom requires that the teacher possess the forethought to engage all of the students all of the time, add variety in the lessons and classroom set ups, and most importantly, be even tempered and smile always.
