What I learnt from Unit 16 is about conditional and reported speech. In term of of learning conditional sentences, students have to understand the basic form of Past tenses and Present tenses. Because the combination of sentence are using present and past tenses. The first is zero conditional that refers to actions and scientific facts or situations that are always true. The form of the sentence is: if/when + present tense, present tense (S+V+(-s/-es). For example: when the sun goes down, it turn dark. Second is the first conditional that talks about ?real? situation in the future that is possible, once the condition has been satisfied. The form of the sentence is: if + present simple (S+V+(-s/-es), will. For example: if he saves money, he will buy the house. In term of activate stage, do a pair work to discuss about promise or planning event this weekend. Third is the second conditional that communicates present/future, unreal hypothetical situation that is presently not true. The form of the sentence is: if + past simple (S+V+(-d/-ed), would/might/could + verb. For example: If I played for Liverpool FC, I could play for the national team. Fourth is the third conditional that refers to a hypothetical past actions and hypothetical past consequences/result. The form of the sentence is: if + past perfect (S+ had+past participle), would/could/might+have+ past participle. For example: If I had bought that diamond, I would have been richer. Latt is the mixed conditional that refers to a hypothetical past action and the hypothetical present consequences. The form of the sentence is: if + past perfect, would + verb. For example: if I had won the miss universe, I would be look fabulous. In this unit also teach about direct and reported speech. the direct speech is all the sentence that actually speech and use in present tense. The actual words of the speaker are enclosed in converted commas and quotations marks. For example: Paul said, ?I bought a jacket for Paula yesterday?. In reported speech is the actual words have been spoken by the speaker in past and then we change the sentence into present word. Note that there are never quotation ark in reported speech, instead the word ?that? will be used. For example: Paul said that he bought the jacket for Paula the day before. Hopefully by learning from conditional and reported speech, students can understand and get the idea about the materials. Because teaching this unit is really need more time and attention that students should not get lost about it.
