This unit taught some methadologies and techniques which are requirements of language teachers. And detailed statement of ESL. Also correcting and feedback. About methadologies; Grammar-translation:The basic principle of system is learning about a language through finding equivalents in the students own language and the foreign language being learnt. This methadology also requires the teacher to be proficent in the students native language. Audio-lingualism: this methadology basically suggests that, much learning as a result of habit formation through conditioning. It's useful for language drills especially for low level students. Presentation,Practice and Production(PPP): In this methadologhy teachers should become less flexible and teacher centred. Teachers present the context and explain the meaning of the new language. Then the students practice making sentences in a controlled way. And production stage is unnecessary. Task-Based Learning:In this method the focus is more on a task than the language. Communicative Language Teaching(CLT): This method emphasizes the importance of language functions as opposed to reliance only grammar and vocabulary. Community Language Learning(CLL):This approach helps teachers focus on the need to make the lessons as ''student-centred''as possible by allowing students to choose the topic and language. The Silent Way:The most emhasized point about this method is the behaviour of the teacher(who says as little as possible). This is because the students can discover the language for themselves. Suggestopedia: In this method teacher and students have a parent-shidren relationship to make students feel more comfortable and relaxed. The Lexical Approach:This approach argues that words and phrases are far better building blocks for language acqusition than grammatical structure. Some elicitation tecniques; Real objects Flashcards Drawings Ask for question Gap-fill Lists Follow-on questions Concept descriptions Mime Definitions Points to bear in mind Engage Study and Activate(ESA):ESA is the most effectve and the most logical of all the methodologies for new teachers. Engage:this is the sequence in the lesson where the teacher will try to arouse the students interest and get them involved in the lesson. Study:This sequence focus on self awareness. And for that the best way is worksheeets. Activate: This is the sequence where the students areencouraged to use any/all of the language they know. The students should use language freely and communicatively as possible. The focus is more on fluency than accuracy with no restrictions on language usage. There is also a boomerang esa method which has engage-activate-study-activate2
