Unit 1 gives an overview regarding on the subtopics to be discussed in this course. It focuses on the things that I need to know about this course especially when it comes to teaching young learners where in they are children between ages of 5 to 13. Aside from that, this unit aims to inform me about the essentials point about teaching children such as becoming an English teacher of young learners is being able to understand the needs of the learners and having the passion to teach them for them to develop a critical and analytical mind. Hence, it also stressed out the aims and objectives of this course which includes the following; a) to develop a teacher who can understand and put into practice the designated roles of an English teacher to young learners, b) to create a teacher that follows the professional virtues and ethics, c) a teacher who can assess young learners objectively, create a well-planned teaching syllabus,course outline, or lesson plans that are suited to the different needs and interests of young learners, and d) a teacher who can design and apply the applicable assessment procedures that every child needs. Aside from that, this course also discussed the different terminologies or acronyms that varied organizations use in teaching English and each of these acronyms stand differently or has a unique meaning and application however, I observe that all of them focuses on teaching English to learners or enhancing the English language but in a varied level depending on the case. For example, TEFL is an English instruction given to non-native speakers in a non-English country while TESL is about teaching students whose first language is not English, but are currently living in a native-English speaking country. Therefore, even though they are both teaching English the students to be taught are different due to the country of origin. Meanwhile, through this unit I was also able to realize the benefits of being a teacher of young learners based from the professional fulfillment that you will gain, salary , and working hours that you will spend in teaching. Moreover, this unit also provides the gist on how in demand it is to be an English teacher of young individuals. Therefore, I want to emphasize that being an English teacher to young learners is not an easy job but rather it really takes a full understanding about children and experience on how to handle them. Learning the facts alone are not enough for us to understand and teach young learners but rather having the opportunity to interact with them and discover their needs and interests are necessary for us to become an effective and efficient English teachers since young learners are delicate individuals who need proper care and attention. That's why having an overview of this unit gives me the chance to understand the course better in a light way.
