There are five conditions: Zero, First, Second, Third, and Mixed. The zero condition is if/when+ present tense, present tense. An example would is: You heat ice, It will melt. The first condition is if+present simple, will. If I win the lottery, I would take you on a cruise. The second condition is If+ past simple, would/could/might+base form. An example of this condition would be: If I win the lottery, I might take you on a cruise. The third condition is If+past perfect, would/could/might+have+ past particle. The mixed condition is if+past perfect,would+base form. An example of this would be If I had won the lottery, we could be on a ship now. Direct speech is repeating the actual words of a speaker.
