This unit presents and develops upon the topic of the receptive skills of reading and listening. It explores effective ways of teaching these skills, and how to best incorporate them into lesson plans. For example, picking a variety of interesting topics aids in keeping student enthusiasm high to promote learning. I have learned the importance of taking receptive skills into consideration when planning lessons, and while enacting them. I now understand the appropriate times to present an authentic text to a class, and when to use a non-authentic text. In addition to this, targeting student interest when choosing a text, and choosing an appropriate level of complexity are also very important factors to consider.
