Unit 19 is devoted to teaching special groups. 1. Beginners can be divided into the following categories: the absolute beginner, the false beginner, the adult beginner, the young beginner, and the beginner without the Roman alphabet. Tips fo rteaching this groups were listed. As motivation, the following pieces of advice were given: not to over-correct, be sensitive to students, respond to them as individuals, create realxed and welcoming atmosphere, praise and encourage, focus on what is easy, other than difficult; explain your own methods, and a book should not be open all the time. Though this category of students strike fear into the hearts of inexperienced teachers, it can be the most rewarding and enjoyable. 2. Teaching individual students has both advantages and disadvantages. Regarding the pluses, students are highly motivated, the goals are clearly defined, the relationship is quite close; as per the minuses, classes are less formal, tiredness is felt, classroom dynamics is lost, and the only partner is a teacher. Moreover, one-to-one lessons are notorious for cancellations. Thus, a teacher should aximize on the students' interests and experience. It's better to try to arrange and combine what a student wants and what you thin she/he needs. 3. Teaching children has a lot of pecularities. There should be a slower and more clearly pronounced delivery, use of a higher pitch and exaggerated intonation, lots of repetitions, reference to a child itself, to its current activity, positive responses to children's utterance, irrespcetive of pronunciation. Patient repetition, positive encouragement, and frequent praise can lead to self-esteem, less self-consiousness about potential mistakes. A teacher should always show signs of appreciation. Frequent change of activities should take place as a child's span of attention and concern decreases. It's recommendable a classroom invironment should be made pleasant and welcoming (poster, cartoons, children's own artwork, for instance). A teacher should be ready to deal with disruptive behavious... 4. Teaching business English (e.g.hotel staff, lawyers, etc.) can be conducted in one-to-one, in-company group and in-school group formats. Such students are usually called clients. As they are often tired, a teacher should compromise and make the material less challenging. Attendance may be sporatic, homework is difficult to be done..And there different level of the language can be mixed in one classroom. So, challenge stronger learners, and don't lose weaker students. A teacher is to start with pre-course assessment and goal setting. It's better to find as much information about teh company as possible. A teacher is not to be an expert in the field of the client's business. If qualified, feign your ignorance...:) Mid-course evaluation should take place. During the course attendance, the material, cancellation details are kept record of. Afterwards a post -course report is to be submitted.
