This unit went over what it means to be a good teacher and a good learner. A good teacher wants to teach because they want to influence and encourage their learners and are passionate about what they are teaching. Good teachers take their passion and are knowledgable with the subject, they plan activities to carry out the subject, and engage with the activities to make the students motivated. They are there for the learners, not just to teach for a job. They are patient, always willing to explain and correct something and are very attentive with students. A good learner is someone that opens their mind to studying the subject. They engage in the subject and ask questions when they aren't sure of things. Good learners want to learn the subject and will practice with it until they get it right. They are people that want to be corrected when they are wrong. This unit also went over the different roles that the teacher has to play within the classroom. Teachers have to manage and take control of the class which is when the attention is focused on them at the front of the classroom and also have to organize what they want to teach for the day and how they teach it, whether it's in a manager position or a group activity. They also play the role of an assessor who gives feedback and corrects what is wrong along with playing the role of a prompter who encourages their students to keep going when they're frustrated. Sometimes teachers even participate in their actives they assign and that way they can observe and monitor how the students are learning. He or she may be a resource when they need help and can guide them in the right direction. They just have to make sure they don't take the lead too much otherwise the students may lose motivation. Teachers are there to help their students grow and have to take on these different roles in order to do that. Each student may learn in a different way which is why teachers have to take on all of these roles. Teachers have to know what audience their learners will be in order to know which ways they want to teach. Adults are usually there to learn because they have the choice and want to be there. Teenagers are harder to teach because they often don't have motivation and are forced to be in school. Younger learners are the target audience to teach languages because their minds are more open to new things such as sounds. They are like sponges and are usually able to learn and remember more. No matter what the age though, all learners will be at their own levels. Beginners and elementary will be learning the language from scratch and will eventually learn how to form sentence structures and how to put it all together to communicate. With intermediate levels the student still is not completely fluent but is able to communicate and cover topics. Once a student is advanced, he/she will be fluent and have a variety of knowledge on the subject. Overall, I think that I have learned how to be a good teacher and what roles that I need to take on. Also, I know how to categorize the different levels that my students will be on and what to expect from each age group.
