This lesson covered the receptive skills of reading and listening. In general students are able to read and understand material much better than listening, especially if they are beginners. I remember my Spanish teachers would play recordings at even slower pace so that we would have more of a chance to listen to the content and answer questions. I think that idea of using invented texts in order to increase students ability to understand is a good idea, and can even be adapted to recordings or videos. For higher level learners actual videos, interviews, movies, tutorials, etc can be effectively used, and even provide an opportunity to introduce expressions or words that are not commonly addressed during classes.
