This unit gave a broad introduction of common EFL methodologies, including the Classical Method, Total Physical Response, Suggestopaedia, and the Constructivist Approach. These methods each have their pros and cons, and all fall between the nature-nurture spectrum of learning. Furthermore, I learned about ESA, or Engage/Study/Activate method developed by Jeremy Harmer. Detailed examples of how a TEFL lesson can be structured and modified using this approach encourage students to use the language in fun and interactive ways while allowing flexibility for the teacher. Finally, useful tips on feedback, correction techniques, and lesson planning provide teachers valuable guidance to help enhance learning for students.
