In this unit I learned about the 4 past tenses, how and when to use them, For example, the past simple tense is used to express completed past actions Example : I worked last night. The past continuous is used to express actions that were in progress at a particular time in the past Example : Last Tuesday at 1:00pm I was playing golf with my friends. Past perfect is to relate two past actions and is not concentrating on duration : By the time I got to the house, Laura had cooked. The past perfect continuous is to relate two past actions as well, but more specifically is to express that a past action was in progress up until another past action. Example : Liz had been playing basketball for 2 hours, before she went to school.
