In this unit, I learned that there are many uses for modal auxiliary verbs, modals can be used to express a number of different ideas, like obligation, possibility, permission, ability, and advice. Different modal auxiliary verbs are to be used depending on the degree of formality, they don?t change in form according to person and are always followed by a verb in its base form. For passive voice, we use it most frequently when the person who performs the action is not known, not important, or we don?t want to say exactly who did it. Relative clauses are divided into two types: defining and non-defining. Phrasal verbs are multi-word verbs that consists of a verb plus one or two particles and they operate as one item.
