Classes need to be adapted to each group. This is especially true of adult learners and very young learners. With adults, age, attendance, class size, socio-economic status, and previous experience with English can vary tremendously. It is especially necessary to conduct both a pre-test and a needs analysis to determine the structure of the class, and ensure that all topics are relevant to the students. With very young learners, there is generally much less variance in the above factors other than class size, but attention span is short and thus both interest and performance largely depend on how the teacher teaches the lesson rather than the contents of the lesson itself, as long as those contents are suited to the age level.
